Here are a couple pictures of Mason when he was about 2 or 3 days old...so tiny!
This is about as much "swimming" Mason got to do this summer, but he loved it!

Hi! Wow, the year is just flying by…It is almost October, which means Holidays are coming up & then the year really goes by. It will be another new year before I know it!
PLUS, Mason will be SIX MONTHS old on Friday!! He is changing & learning so much every day! Since I last wrote he has learned to sit – up … just BAM one day he didn’t flop over anymore! It was just a day or so before turning 5 months old! Then, a couple days later he FINALLY rolled from his back to his tummy, and then over to his back again. I think that is usually supposed to come before sitting up, but once again he isn’t text book!!
Mason has also started teething…and this last weekend Angie discovered what feels like an upper front tooth coming in! So far it hasn’t been too bad (knock on wood)… we did have a weekend that was not fun for anyone, but lately it has just been lots and lots of drool and of course everything goes into the mouth!
He is a grabber now…especially for your cup or Daddy’s beer! Which of course Matt, Paw-Paw and his Uncles Kevin and Seth think is awesome and means he must be thirsty! But, no worries, Mommy won’t let them sneak one in!
We started him on solids a couple weeks ago. Not a big fan of cereal, seems to like oatmeal a little more. Loves green beans though! Amy also gave him a graham cracker the other night…I think it was mainly all over Jenn and his shirt than in his belly!
We had our first weekend - and my first NIGHT – away from him this last weekend. It was bittersweet for me. Paula said “oh how nice, you & Matt are going on a nice romantic trip”…HAHA…Matt & I weren’t even together! We both were at Bachelor / Bachelorette Parties! Mason (and the rest of our house) stayed at Gigi & Kevin’s and it sounds like everything went well! He did come with an “instruction sheet”…2 pages long LOL!! They & all his cousins definitely wore him out though…that first night back home he slept the whole night FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!! And you know what? He did it again the next night!! I’m not holding my breath though…
We had good reports at his September CF Clinic. He is growing & is healthy…just not gaining as much weight as Matt & I had hoped, but as long as he is healthy and gaining we are happy & so are the doctors. Mason had to have blood work done…I think I was more upset about it then Mason was! I soaked his paci w/ glucose water & that seemed to do the trick! After the poke he looked as though he wanted to cry, but got over it fast…what a trooper!
Due to his lung symptoms of congestion in the AMs & occasional coughing / sneezing, Dr. C wanted to start him on a new daily breathing treatment which we had to try out at there. It is a nebulizer with Hypertonic Saline Solution (basically really clean & expensive salt). He. Was. Not. Happy. Tears, kicking, screaming…ugh the whole nine yards. It was awful. So, instead of doing it twice a day like Dr. C had initially said, she suggested we slowly introduce it until he gets used to it. We do it every night along w/ his bopping treatments. THANKFULLY, he has gotten much better! Still not a fan, and depends on what kind of mood you catch him in, but he’s getting more and more used to it. Praying that this has really good benefits for him. Clinical trials have shown that the Hypertonic Saline can greatly reduce lung infections, but of course there haven’t been any trials on children under the age of 6.
Apparently Mason is no longer a fan of long car trips. Not a good thing for us since we travel a lot for family & doctor visits. I’m hoping this is just a short phase because it makes a 2 hour trip very exhausting & nerve rattling!
Oh, & he is also pulling up a lot more on his own. He’ll probably be crawling by the time I get around to doing another update on here! He is always trying to go, go, go!!
I promise to put up pictures in the near future!!
Love – Jess, Matt, & Mason
